Tutorials and Feedback

10th March 2015

This session was a talk about our very initial ideas. I explained that mine was to design for 4 deities and then cary out the makeups for two which would be presented in the form of a short film, maybe a scene between the two characters.

My tutor advised that;

- I look into areas like tarot cards and star signs

- I consider other ways to present the pieces, like have the two actors dancing to music (like the end scene of gladiator). Or maybe promotional/advertising purposes

- Look at the makeup in programmes likr Sexy Beasts and critique and consider it. Also look at more Face Off.

- Consider the facial movement beneath the makeups

- The concept isn't original, but if carried out cleverly and presented in a unique way, then it could be new

- Consider costs during making process

From this I intend to start my research and look into ways of representing these pieces.

20th March 2015

Today we presented our powerpoint presentations to the class about our intentions for the project.

My feedback was pretty positive, my tutor is happy with my idea but would like me to look into including some hair skills into my looks.

Feedback from my peers also made me realise that creating 2 fully realised prosthetic characters might be too much work for one unit. They suggested that I do one prosthetic deity and then have them interacting with another kind of character with simplistic makeup, which I think is  really good idea (maybe I could incorporate hairwork into this character).

I think this may lead me more to doing a scene from a film of the characters interacting, rather than the dance with powder, but i'll have to see.

Other Notes:

- X-men 2 has a character that disappears in a puff of powder

- Far Cry 4 has demons (shangri la) which die and smoke/powder appears

- Dorset has a Japanese wedding garden location

This is another sheet from a tutorial in which I took notes.

Generally I need to do more depth and breadth of research and be sure to annotate everything.

As im using PAX paint I should research this more thoroughly, like its history with Dick Smith, etc.

I should also experiment with the bodypainting texture and look into ways of creating this

As I plan on creating a Zbrush design, I should research how Zbrush is used in the industry to create designs

My tutor also explained to me the importance on undercuts in taking apart a mould. A mould shouldn't be difficult to take apart, as this can affect the way the piece comes out. This give me a lot of insight into future mould-making, as the mould for my headpiece almost had issues with its shape.
