Skin Grafts

Because all my ideas focus heavily on subtle anatomical changes, I also wanted to cover some ideas that allowed me to experiment more with textures and painting. I thought i'd use this as an experimental opportunity, so inspired by Dr. Moreau, I will be doing some animal to human skin graft makeups in a mad scientist fashion.

This idea is also influenced by my reading into the abjact and posthumanism; the idea of developing oneself with technology. I'm not suggesting that this idea pertains to posthumanist ideals, but it is inspired by the concept.

It also feeds into an idea that I head when watching the documentary Animal Imitators, featuring 'Cat man' Dennis Avner. A physchologist talked about the idea of 'transpecies' like transsexualism and Dennis mentioned that there are currently bio-engineers working on making fur possible as a body modification.

I imagine this as being the results of some of the bio-engineering experiments of animal to human skin grafts.

I am designing and making them to look realistic enough for film purposes, so I will also be considering the collateral damage that would have realistically happened to the skin during the process. I will try using collodian when applying some of the pieces to simulate a healing scar/fresh scar to the area. I may also try glueing some thread to the appliance and surrounding skin to act as stitches.

Mainly this area of my work is putting all my research on painting, sculpting and hair punching into practise, which I think are all key areas to focus on and important skills to hone.
