Johnson, K. (2014) The Mercenary Makeup Artist: Breaking into the Business with Style. United States: Createspace

As I am planning on entering the prosthetics industry, I don't plan on going to any bridal shows at the moment. Although I may start after university as a way of making extra money through bridal makeup.
I have Facebook and instagram as my social networking outlets, as obviously Twitter doesn't really allow for pictures as much.

I have a seperate facebook makeup page to my personal one, as i'd assumed that created a more professional image and seperated my personal life from my work, but it seems many professionals don't bother creating a seperate page. I feel I will stick with mine now, as my personal one would be dominated by friends and quotes etc, rather than professional work like most of the examples below.

Although Stewart Bray's facebook page isn't an official work page, his posts are almost always makeup/mould making related and I believe he uses it as his work page.
He has a mixture of 'professional' posts, which he links from his instagram, which I hadn't thought to do before and is a good idea as it encourages people to go to his instagram page so he gets more followers.
His less formal posts are often humourous and often relate to makeup or design in some way (such as the above post). It reminded of something Kristyan Mallet said when he came to the university; this job is 20% talent and 80% personality. As this is such a personable industry, I think having humourous images every now and then can't be a bad thing so long as they're not the dominant feature of the page.
Lars Carlsson and Kristyan Mallet also don't have a seperate professional page for their work, but post it all on their personal Facebook page, although Kristyan posts a lot less work than Stuart Bray .

These examples of professional's instagram accountsall show that they rarely post anything but makeup related work. Stuart Bray's introduction is more casual than the others (his online presence generally takes a casual approach) but other than that, they all present themselves as professional prosthetic makeup artists.
My account features 90% makeup related content and I will try to keep it at that level, as I think from my research, being 100% professional makeup related all the time isn't strictly necessary.
As I'm not allowed as long an intro as the examples, I kept it short with the ket information: Claire Golby*20*MUA*UK. This has also lead me to think about including my instagram link on my CV and website, as it will be more regularly updated and will show more of my work that wont be included on my website.

I have been regularly updating my instagram, trying to post at least once every two weeks. By doing this, I have doubled my amount of followers, and received positive comments on my work from some industry professionals. I plan to continue in a similar manner, as Instagram is a positive networking tool. I also find it personally inspiring constantly seeing the work of industry professionals, as well as a good research point for makeups.

Having continued to regularly update my instagram using appropriate hashtages, my amount of followers has reached 132 which is steady progress.

I am considering starting a LinkedIn account, as it is free (with limited features) and quite a few industry professionals have accounts.

ShootingPeople
ShootingPeople is a site that puts film crews together for filming purposes, whether you are looking for a camera man or MUA.
"Jess and I started Shooting People in 1998, to enable filmmakers to come together to support and advise each other on projects. The network grew massively and its reputation has been forged by the vast and vibrant membership of filmmakers, actors, crew, musicians, writers, animators etc who continue to fight the good fight to keep independent filmmaking alive.
Whether you are a student starting out, or an experienced DOP wanting to get into indie features, you will find an open community sharing advice on production, distribution, funding, kit, agents and more.
There’s no noise here. Just loads of support, sharing of knowledge and productions taking place. If you decide to become a part of the community, thankyou. And welcome!" - Cath Le Couteur

I have signed up for a twelve month membership. Searching through the available positions, there seems to be quite regular posts for makeup positions, some paid which could be useful in the future.

There have been several oportunities of certain interest to me that have appeared on shootingpeople. However, they are often in locations too far away for me to compromise my time for. I do think this website will prove useful though after graduation, when I plan on moving to London, as that is where many of the jobs are.
Creaturegreddeon
A personal goal I set for myself in my PDP was to try and display my work at Creaturegeddon. So I emailed Pete asking him about displaying my work and the concept for my FMP as those would be the pieces I would be displaying. The replies are promising, and I sent him a photo of the sculpt which he seemed to like. Nothing is confirmed yet, but I am still hopeful. I will be away travelling at the time, but I will arrange for someone to go and set it up for me if necessary.
