Designing a Logo

These are some examples of logos within the industry. I think Krystian Mallett's is simple and dramatically effective. The linear section absent from the 'A' also creates a more iconic and memeorable image. Having 'MUA' or 'Makeup Artist' is something I also need to consider with regards to my own logo.

Neill Gorton's is a more memorable and unique logo, but is for a studio and is therefore more creative. The chameleon is relevant because it represents the adaption and change brought on through sfx makeup and the bold colour keep the logo simple. I hadn't considered using anything other than words for my logo, but it clearly is an option.

Ve Neill's logo is the most basic and unappealing to me, a it reminds me of a word art document which takes away from any professional presentation.

Designing my Logo

I was initially really pleased with this design. But then I looked over other logos and realised that this one is actually quite bulky, and not very slick. I also considered the fact that a logo doesn't necessarily need to be informative. It needs to be simple and memorable. This logo will be going on my business cards, website and CV, all of which will include my full name and the fact the i'm a makeup artist. Therefore, all of the information doesn't need to be as obviously spelt out in my logo.

Graphics

I decided to enlist the help of a graphics student to help me create my logo. I am not very competant with designing technology, and I also knew that they would have much more knowledge about branding and logos than me. This would help me make a more informed decision and therefore result in a more professional logo. She scanned my ideas into her computer and came up with several different logo options based on these.

This black logo on the left is by far the most popular amoung my friends and collegues and is also my favourite. The designs I drew up look quite different when properly shown as a graphic design. I didn't think this was necessarily the best concept for my logo, but it certainly presents as the clearest and boldest.
